The Last 24 is a documentary that takes a behind-the-scenes look at how the Dominic Walsh Dance Theater dancers prepare during the last 24 hours before taking the stage for a premier production.

The program gives viewers an inside look at what ballet dancers must endure before taking the stage and opens up another means for the rest of us to appreciate the true art of dance.

Dominic Walsh began dancing with the Houston Ballet in 1989 before setting up his own independent dance company. He says the documentary achieves its objective of assisting the viewer in developing a genuine interest and appreciation for the craft.

The film was recorded over 24 hours with three separate camera crews working simultaneously.

"It's a very honest portrayal and there are valid issues that directors and dancers go through and it makes the art form that much more interesting to be able to see it in this sort of reality documentary format," Walsh said.

The Last 24 will debut at 9:30 p.m. today on PBS.
