ABOUT THE ART EXHIBIT
An Emerald Anniversary Exhibit: Photography and Paintings Inspired by the
Dancers of Oregon Ballet Theatre

Oregon Ballet Theatre welcomes the opportunity to showcase visual art inspired by our dancers. This exhibition includes twenty-one photographs and four paintings by seven artists.

Blaine Truitt Covert has photographed OBT from its founding to the present, and painter Mona Jones Cordell has followed the company for over a decade. Andy Batt and Alicia J. Rose have contributed their unique perspectives for several years, while Randall L. Milstein and James McGrew discovered OBT more recently. The earliest images included here are from 1995, though most of the photographs reflect the last few seasons.

Abigail Kaufman’s Tendu represents OBT’s Photo/Art Encounter program, an education outreach opportunity for high school and college visual arts students to draw and photograph the dancers as they take their daily company class.

All seven of the artists whose work appears here are uniquely sparked by the ephemeral splendor of dance to create in their own respective art forms.

DANCE TALKS

A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM
Monday, February 22, 2010 / 7pm / Location TBD

Special guest Allen Nause, Artistic Director of Artists Repertory Theatre, will join Christopher Stowell to discuss Shakespeare's masterpiece from the differing perspectives of spoken and danced drama. Nause directed A Midsummer Night's Dream for Artists Rep, and co-directed a bilingual, bicultural production in Vietnam in 2000. Stowell condensed Shakespeare's complex narrative into his 55 minute danced version in 2007. They will enrich their discussion with comparative video excerpts of several scenes. OBT is delighted to offer this singular opportunity for dialogue across disciplines.
