The basic correctness of a jump 2007/08/29 05:10

When I think of a basic jump I'm thinking of a student in first postion, in a demi-plie with no strain, who can then push off and go straight up without changing his/her posture.
The toes push off last in a strong sharp movement, just as they do at the end of a degage.
The landing is through the foot, with the foot holding tension so as to cushion the impact. First, from the toes to the metatarsals (the first joint to bend), and then through the sole of the foot, before the heel lands. However when the heel lands, the sole of the foot completely relaxes, and the calves relax into the maximum demi-plie, heels still on the floor.
Complexity builds from that.
Almost anyone can do anything if they practise it correctly, with as many repetitions as it takes to produce the desired result. So it's worth it to practise the basics for as long as that requires.
